Which Tour is Right for You?
An Introduction to France and its Regions

The Loire Valley

Our Loire Valley tour itineraries are a joy for everyone. The cycling is relatively easy, the starting points are just a short train ride from Paris, and the cycling is almost completely done on  bike paths or very quiet roads designated as bike routes. You can often cycle for miles without encountering motorized traffic. These itineraries are ideally suited to those making their first cycling tour in France.

Land of romantic castles -- built for luxury rather than defense -- the Loire Valley is known as the heart and soul of France. Here you will find gentle landscapes crossed by a myriad of rivers -- all tributaries of the Loire, Europe's last untamed river. The Loire and its tributaries exhibit a natural beauty that has been largely untouched by human hands. And rising seemingly everywhere along the banks of these rivers are the grand châteaux.

Even if you're not particularly interested in visiting castles, this is an extraordinary tour for beautiful scenery and and an opportunity to experience the French joie de vivre.

The Loire Valley's terrain is mostly gentle, making for easy cycling, though cliffs often arise abruptly from the river banks, adding grandeur to the geography. Like many regions of France, the Loire Valley virtually constitutes one huge vineyard, producing an enormous variety of reds, whites, and rosés. There are also large areas of ancient forests that introduce another wonderful dimension to cycling here.
